Camera maker Jollylook has unveiled an Instax Square film pinhole camera DIY kit now funding on Kickstarter.
The Pinhole SQUARE camera is described as “an innovative, eco-friendly DIY kit that lets photography enthusiasts create their own instant film camera from scratch”.
Jollylook’s Kickstarter page said: “Designed with the vintage aesthetics and the charm of classic photography, this kit aims to make the process of camera-building and picture-taking a hands-on, educational, and enriching experience.”
The new Kickstarter follows the successful funding of the Jollylook Pinhole, a DIY instant camera which raised nearly $75,000 in August 2022.
“Building on the success of our previous Kickstarter campaign for the Jollylook Pinhole Mini DIY kit, we’ve designed an even more exciting SQUARE format camera for instant film enthusiasts and DIY lovers.”
As the picture above shows, Jollylook – a Ukrainian company which has relocated to Slovakia since Russia’s 2022 invasion – believes the camera can be completed in about two hours.
The camera comes as a set with 65 parts and does not need glue. At the end of construction the camera is ready to shoot Instax Square packs.
“The Jollylook Pinhole SQUARE camera uses popular instant square film, allowing you to witness the magic of a photo developing right in front of your eyes,” Jollylook said on the Kickstarter campaign. “The camera’s design allows for manual exposure control, giving users the freedom to adjust to different lighting conditions for the perfect shot.
The campaign has already reached its target of just over £12,000 after little more than a day and the campaign finishes on 9 June.
The cheapest pledge including a camera kit costs £64 ($79) and pledges are expected to ship in September 2023.
