We brought something special along to London’s Photographica camera fair this week.
Fresh from a long day stickering and cainstering with the help of Chroma Camera‘s Steve Lloyd, we brought launched our first batch of Kosmo Foto Direktor 35mm film.
Direktor is re-rolled Double-X made by Eastman Kodak – a black-and-white cinema film used in movies such as ‘Raging Bull’, ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘Oppenheimer’. It’s our first special-edition film and the first cinema film offered by Kosmo Foto.
We offered the film first of all to Photographica attendees, with the intention being to offer it next at a photowalk held in co-operation with The Photographers’ Gallery Bookshop on Saturday 23 May. We were going to then offer the remainder of the first batch of Direktor to online customers after that.
This walk now has to be postponed – the new date will be announced very soon via the Photographers’ Gallery – which means that we can, in fact, offer Kosmo Foto Direktor through the Kosmo Foto Shop as of now.
The film is available in strictly limited quantities – only 150 rolls are up for grabs. Customers can order up to six rolls – we’d like as many people as possible to try out this first batch.
Later in the summer, our plan is to offer a new version with some extra-special elements – but more on that later.
Note: the film has been professional bulk rolled, using recycled film cassettes and canisters. All cassettes used are either Fuji or Kodak, as these have superior light traps. All cassettes are metal only, so won’t leave scratches.
The cassettes are DX coded for the film’s native ISO of 250.
Our first rolls are still waiting to be developed, and we’ll be adding sample photos from the first rolls to the listing, as well as publishing a “First Rolls” post.
