Harman Technology had announced the release of Ilford Pan F Plus black-and-white film in large-format sizes.

New versions of the fine-grained film – especially popular with landscape and fine-art photographers – are now available in in 4×5 and 8×10 formats.

Harman Technology said in a press release: “Renowned for its ultra-fine grain, exceptional sharpness, rich contrast, and beautiful tonal range, Ilford Pan F Plus has long been a favourite among photographers shooting landscapes, studio photography, portraits, and fashion. While the film has been available for decades in 35mm and 120 roll film formats, this marks the first time photographers can enjoy Pan F Plus in sheet film size.

“While the film has existed for many years in 35mm and 120 formats, a sheet film version has been on the wish list for film photographers for a long time,” said Giles Branthwaite, sales and marketing director at Harman Technology. “In fact, it is possibly the single most requested product we have, so I’m delighted to say we have listened and we have finally been able to deliver this on behalf of the film photography community.”

The new versions of one of the British film producers’ classic emulsions comes amid a burst of activity, much of it involving a recent shift into colour films.

Since the end of 2023, Harman Technology has pivoted into colour film for the first time. The original version of Harman Phoenix 200 colour negative film was followed by an improved follow-up, Phoenix II, in the summer of 2025.

It has since released experimental films with pronounced colour tints – the redscale Red in 2025, and the turquoise-toned Switch Azure earlier this year.

The company also recently published a video on YouTube showing the R&D behind new films and its hopes for the future of colour film development.
