The prototype Analogue aF-1 – the new 35mm compact camera announced by a team in the Netherlands earlier this year – has been unveiled and is now available for pre-order.

The images, which were sent to Kosmo Foto ahead of the official announcement on Tuesday (30 September), include the first released picture taken on the camera, the team said.

The camera, a 35mm autofocus compact with a sliding clamshell cover like the Olympus Mju cameras, was announced in January this year following the release of the Pentax 17 and Rollei 35AF camera in 2024.

The camera was initially announced via Analogue Shop’s Instagram account, promising both Lidar-based autofocus and a 35mm f/2.8 lens.

The camera has now been announced for pre-sale and is listed at costing around £400 ($530).

A statement from the team said: “This moment is a true milestone for us. After countless hours of testing, tweaking, and refusing to compromise on quality, our prototype is finally complete. The results are beyond what we even hoped for.

“As you know, the road here hasn’t been easy. We’ve faced doubts, criticism and many setbacks but in the end it only strengthened our dedication to building the camera we dreamed of: a truly great and accessible, point-and-shoot camera. That’s why we’ve insisted on tirelessly testing, with checking every result in detail until it met our standards.”

The finished prototype images follow sneak peeks released earlier this month, which included video of the camera’s lens, showing its two-bladed lens aperture.

The images released on Tuesday include a portrait of a young woman shot on the prototype camera, which shows gently blurred background behind the subject. Analogue Shop has promised that more examples from the camera will be released over the coming weeks.
