German film producer ORWO has teased the release of a new colour film called Wolfen NC200.

The new film was unveiled via a holographic display at The Photography & Video Show in London on the weekend on the ORWO stall.

The film was first hinted at in late 2023 via the YouTube channel Nico’s Photography Show but no further details have emerged since then.

The hologram shown at the photography show showed the box art for the yet-to-be-released film, but no details on when the film would be released. The film does not yet appear on the shop page of the ORWO website.

NC200 is the latest Wolfen branded colour film to emerge from the German brand, which was once East Germany’s main film producer during the Cold War.

Since being brought by new owners, ORWO (which stands for Original Wolfen, after the city of Wolfen where it was originally based) has released colour films under the Wolfen name .

Alongside its long-standing roster of black-and-white films, ORWO has released two colour films since 2022 – NC500, based off Agfa’s XT320 cinema film, and NC400, a similar film which is reported to have less noticeable grain. Both films have a subdued colour palette, veering towards green.

In 2023, when the film was first teased, YouTuber Nico Llasera (who hosts Nico’s Photography Show) said he had seen examples of an early version of the film which looked much more conventional than NC400 and NC500, with less of a colour cast.

The new owners of ORWO also own Inoviscoat, a coating facility which has produced films for the likes of Lomography. NC 200 is thought to have been adapted form an existing Agfa recipe, Kosmo Foto has been told.
