Boxes of black-and-white film

It’s been just over a week since Kosmo Foto announced the Black & white World Cup.

It’s a survey of the film community to see just which black-and-white film is the absolute favourite.

After voting closes at the end of June we’ll tote up the points – and one film will be crowned champion.

Nearly 100 film fans have voted so far, and I’m looking forward to receiving a lot more.

And now there’s extra incentive to vote. Some of the companies producing black-and-white film have very kindly donated film for a special prize.

One lucky winner will win a box of black-and-white films donated by:

Adox

CineStill

Film Washi

Foma

Ilford

Japan Camera Hunter

Kosmo Foto

LOMOgraphy

More films are likely to be added to the prize package in the next week – we predict the prize package will be around 50 rolls. That’s more than enough to keep you shooting throughout the rest of the year.

All you have to do is look through the list of films below and choose your three favourites. Your first choice gets three points, second two points and third choice one point. Email those choices to us. You then become eligible to win the prize.

The points will be added up after voting finishes on 30 June and we’ll then announce one film World Cup champion.

Here’s the rules:

  • You can only vote once.
  • For your vote to be eligible, you have to email it to foto.dowling@gmail.com with the title “Black & White World Cup”.
  • You should vote for three films – please don’t vote for four or five or six.
  • Voting is open from midnight on Sunday 26 May to 23.59 on Sunday 30 June (British Summer Time). Any votes received after that will not be counted.
  • You can only choose from films in the list below. Films like Kodak Plus-X, Fuji Neopan and ORWO Isopan SS are all great emulsions from the past but not eligible, sorry.
  • The list includes some rebrands of films (such as Kosmo Foto Mono, LOMOgraphy’s black-and-white films, Silberra’s Agfa-made films). This is because many people are fans of particular branded films, not just the original emulsion.
  • After votes have been counted, the World Cup results will be posted on Kosmo Foto in mid-July.
  • The prize winner will be drawn at random in July
  • Judge’s decision is final
