Harman Technology is reducing the price of its Harman Photo-branded colour negative films and re-releasing the original Phoenix film with an important update.
The repackaged Harman Phoenix will no longer be an ISO 200 film but will be DX coded for ISO 125.
Harman Technology said it had repackaged the film after feedback from photographers who said the film responded better to being shot at a lower ISO.
The new listing on the Harman Photo shop reads: “Harman Phoenix 125 retains the same characteristics that you loved (or hated) about the original but with a new speed of 125 to reflect how you told us you shoot it.”

According to Harman Technology, the film still shows high contrast and strong, visible grain at this lower ISO, and should be shot accordingly.
It also says that it can be developed in E6 or ECN-2 chemicals as well.
The listing says: “With a DX coded cassette and a box speed of ISO 125, It performs best in good, consistent light and on brighter days or when shooting into the light there is also a possibility of halation.
‘It delivers punchy, vibrant colours although they react differently to different scanners and settings. Getting the exposure right will certainly help to get the best results so we suggest metering for the mid tones to retain shadow or highlight detail (over or under exposure is not Phoenix’s friend)!”

While the price of the new version of the film – also available in 120 – has not yet been made public, film is expected to be available from stockists as early as next week.
Meanwhile, other films such as Phoenix’s follow-up Phoenix II has been reduced in price to just £7.32 in the UK for a 24-shot roll and £9.27 for a 36-frame roll, with further reductions for five-packs and 10-packs of film. The price of 120 film is also being reduced to £7.90 a roll.
Harman Photo’s experimental films, Red and the recently released Switch Azure, are also seeing price reductions.
