German photographic brand Rollei has launched a new online shop showcasing its current line-up.

The new site Rollei Analog site is split into three sections – Film, Paper and Chemistry.

The new site belongs to the Rollei offshoot set up by German photographic distributor Hans O Mahn (otherwise known as Maco Direct), which produces Rollei-branded films and other photographic materials rather than the cameras which made the Rollei name famous. Hans O Mahn has licensed the Rollei brand since 2004.

The website’s About page says: “Black-and-white photos have a unique appeal. Whoever takes a closer look at them enters a whole new cosmos – because monochrome pictures are much more than just photos from which colour has disappeared.

“Every black and white image is a palette of different moods. The photographer’s eye is the benchmark; the correct reproduction of the image impression is essential. The photographer is spoilt for choice – between high contrast with saturated black and bright white or an infinite number of shades of grey. The choice is between warm tones or the reproduction of strong contrasts in soft shadows, between brilliant high-key images or the “freezing” of the finest details to a moment of overwhelming clarity.

“Rollei has set itself the goal of creating a product range that enables both professional and amateur photographers to make full use of this creative freedom.”

The newly relaunched site lists six Rollei black-and-white films, alongside three specialty films, which include Rollei Redbird rescale film and Crossbird colour film, long thought to be out of production – though both of the colour films do not yet appear in the shop section.

While no new items have been announced to coincide with the shop’s launch, Kosmo Foto understands new products are in development and will be unveiled in the coming months.
