Photographic accessories producer Reveni Labs has launched a new light meter via Kickstarter.

The Lumo is a flash for both ambient and flash metering, and includes an incident dome, a tripod mount and a flash trigger.

The meter also uses a rechargeable battery which can be replaced by the user.

Matt Berchberger, the Canadian inventor who runs Reveni Labs, said on the Kickstarter page that the Lumo can also read colour temperature. “The colour temperature readout can let you match and tune different LED lights to match, as well as determine the temperature of unknown lights.”

According to the Kickstarter page, the meter’s features are as follows:

  • Anodised aluminium body and buttons, CNC machined from 6061 grade aluminium
  • 1.1″ (2.8cm) full colour LCD
  • Incident ambient and flash metering
  • Reflective ambient metering
  • Incident colour temperature readout
  • Cine Incident and Cine Reflective modes with shutter angle/framerate selection
  • 1/4-20 tripod mount on the bottom for hands-free use when adjusting lights etc
  • Light dome for incident and flash metering
  • 45-degree FOV forward-facing sensor for reflective average metering
  • USB-C charging port
  • User-replaceable NiMH rechargeable battery
  • 3.5mm flash trigger port (high-voltage compatible)
  • Overall dimensions 85mm x 28mm x 20mm (3.3″ x 1.1″ x 0.8″) L x W x H

The Kickstarter for the Lumo was launched on Saturday (25 January). The Kickstarter needs to raise a little more than £18,000 ($22,2745) to put the meter into production and at the time of writing (Monday 27 January) it has reached more than 86% of its goal. The Kickstarter will run until 24 February.

The early bird tier finishes after 72 hours, with the meter costing £101 ($126). After that, the meter will cost £112 ($139).

Reveni Labs, which was started by Bechberger in 2020, has launched a string of successful Kickstarters in the past five years, which started with the original hot shoe light meter in 2020.

He has since also funded a spot meter and a camera shutter tester on the platform.
