MiNT Camera’s Gary Ho said on an Instagram post: “Thanks for waiting patiently, I’m pleased to announce that pre-order starts on 10 September.

“Because of the ridiculously long waitlist, orders will be fulfilled first-come-first-served according to the waitlist. So now’s the time to sign up, and please watch your inbox!

“Production is already in full swing.”

Ho announced a new Instagram account for the Rollei which is now live.

The Rollei 35AF will cost $799 according to an email sent out on Friday (9 August)

The camera – an autofocus 35mm compact camera based on the iconic Rollei 35 camera first released in the 1960s – was first announced in late 2022, around the same time Ricoh Imaging announced the Pentax film camera project which would lead to the recently released Pentax 17.

On the new Rollei 35AF Instagram account, the first post read: “Five years ago we embarked upon a journey to revive a dream, a dream we believe is held by many film photography enthusiasts. This dream has led us down many long and winding roads, but with the help of a very dedicated and talented team, step by step we have finally reached this point.

“We’re pleased to share with you the Rollei 35AF, a brand new 35mm film camera, paying homage to the great lineage of Rollei 35 cameras in the past, whilst forging ahead a new path for the future of film photography.

“This future belongs to all of us, and we’re humbled to play a part in developing it with such a passionate community. Soon, it will be your turn to take the Rollei 35AF to its future. We cannot wait to get this camera into the hands of film shooters everywhere, to see the collective creative possibilities through each of your lens.”

According to an email sent from the Rollei 35AF project, the camera will be priced at $799.

As previously reported on Kosmo Foto, the camera will use a Lidar-based autofocus system and features a 35mm f/2.8 lens.
