Chinese photographic brand Reflx Lab has released a new redscale film called Diablo 100.
The film, which like all redscale films renders images in yellows, oranges and rich reds, is an experimental version of the recently released Lucky 200 colour negative film from China Lucky Film.
On its shop listing, Reflx Lab said: “Reflex Lab Diablo 100 is an experimental film where standard colour film is loaded backward so that light passes through the transparent base before hitting the light-sensitive emulsion. This reverses the order in which colours are exposed, shifting your images to dramatic, fiery shades of red, orange, and yellow.”
The film achieves the characteristic redscale look because the film is essentially reversed in the cassette, with the images are exposed on the emulsion through the base layer, with the red-sensitive layer of the film exposed first instead of last.
Because of the tendency for redscale films to render images almost completely red at their native ISO, Diabolo is rated at ISO 100 instead of Lucky Color 200’s native ISO 200.
The film is available in 36-frame 35mm rolls and can be bought via the Reflx Lab online shop and costs $10.99 a roll.
You can see examples from the film in the gallery below, provided by Reflx Lab, including a shot of how the colours change depending on the ISO setting (click on the images to see a larger version):
The film is the second 35mm redscale film to have appeared in the last 18 months. In February 2025, the UK’s Harman Technology released Red, a reversed version of their first colour film Phoenix.
