The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart and I have something in common. We both put Boston’s Buffalo Tom near the top of our favourite-band list.
Unlike Stewart, I haven’t yet been able to feature them as a guest band on an MTV show that bears my name.
But over the last decade I have been joining them on the road to shoot European tours – and a few US dates – on black and white film.
In 2007, the band released the album ‘Three Easy Pieces’, after a recording hiatus of nearly a decade. When they visited London, I shot them at soundcheck ahead of their show at the Scala. One of the images I shot on that day would later become the album cover of their next album, 2011 ‘Skins’.
Since that soundcheck and show more than 10 years ago, the band have generously allowed me to shoot soundchecks and shows; four European tours between 2007 and 2017, and the three 2011 gigs at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall to mark the band’s 25th anniversary.
Those tours and shows have left me with a fantastic archive of the band’s 21st Century career on dozens of rolls of Fuji Neopan and Kodak Tri-X film, and has reached the point where it’s time to start doing something interesting with it.
Later this year, I’ll be launching a Kickstarter to produce a photo book chronicling 10 years of the band’s touring.
The book will feature many never-before-seen shots from the last decade’s touring, and will I hope become a feature of coffee tables and bookshelves in BT fans’ homes across the world.
I would love to make this project happen with the help of Buffalo Tom fans. So, if you want to know more, join this mailing list:
(Your email address won’t be shared with anyone and you won’t be bombarded with marketing messages – just updates on the book as they happen)
By signing up, you’ll be added to a special mailing list where you’ll get progress reports on the book as it comes together, and the chance to fund the Kickstarter in a soft-launch before it’s made public to the wider world. I’ll also be producing exclusive goodies for those who join the list and help fund the book.
